Herbal Therapy

Herbal medicine is a part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practice. Formulated Chinese Herbs have been successfully used by half of the worlds population for more than 3000 years.

Chinese herbs are rarely used on their own; more commonly they are used in combination to form a Chinese prescription. The use of many herbs helps to achieve a balance within the prescription, and ensures that it enters the part of the body that needs healing. Each Chinese herb, free of chemicals and their side effects is designed for a particular ailment.

Chinese herbal medicine is based on an individualized pattern diagnosis as well as a disease diagnosis. The patient receives a custom written herbal prescription designed to treat individual pattern as well as symptom or disease.

Is it safe for one to just go to a store and choose their own Chinese herbal medicine? No.

Chinese herbology is based on the conditions the body is undergoing at a particular time, and this may change dramatically in just one or two days. Only a person trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques can do the proper evaluation. Only the Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner is able to determine the appropriate Chinese herbal formulas needed to correct the problems.

Is it dangerous for one to take the same herbs as someone else, even if symptoms are alike? Yes, it is very dangerous.

Chinese herbs should be used with discretion. Your symptoms maybe alike, but the condition of your bodies may not. While water is good for parched land, doing it to a flooded area can only cause damage. Fen-Fen/Ma Huang is such an example. It was indiscriminately used for everyone, without regard for their body conditions. Hence while if helped some, it made others sicker.

How are Chinese herbs taken?

The most common method of taking Chinese herbal medicine is a decoction. However, there are also herbal pills, and powdered extracts for those who do not have the time or taste for drinking traditional decoction.

Are there any side effects?

All herbal extracts and pills from our clinic are 100% natural, free of chemicals and preservation as well as be carefully selected. Some sensitive patients may experience reactions such as minor stomach discomfort. If such reactions occur, reduce the dosage, take with food, or modify the herbal formula.
